Final meeting: Thursday 10th April 1879
National Hunt racing was first organised in the Lincolnshire villages of Burton and Blankney in April 1870 on a 4 mile steeplechase course on the edge of Burton and remained popular for the next nine years. The next year the April meeting hosted the Royal Grand National Steeplechase in the presence of the Prince of Wales. At the meeting on Tuesday 6th April 1875 the opening Light-Weight Stakes was won by Lancer, owned by Captain Hutton, while the concluding Welter Stakes went to Blazeaway owned by Mr L T Thornton. The final meeting took place on the Thursday 10th April 1879. |
